    Responsibilities

    In this role you will:

    • The Optometrist will diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system with only non-invasive procedures.
    • Examines eyes and visual system, diagnoses problems or impairments, prescribes corrective lenses, and provides treatment.  
    • Follow established quality measures for the prevention of eye disease, including but not limited to performing HEDIS diabetic eye exams.              
    • Takes ocular and medical history, examines eyes using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception.
    • Consults with and refers patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical or surgical treatment is determined necessary.               
    • Analyzes test results and develops a treatment plan. Prescribes medications within the Optometrist’s legal scope of practice.     
    • Provides patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care.      
    • Performs refractions and prescribes, fits and adjusts eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.      
    • Educates and counsels patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.  May counsel patients regarding surgical and non-surgical options to meet their visual needs.      
    • Prescribes therapeutic measures to correct or conserve vision such as vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation.       

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Completion of Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) from an accredited Optometry school required
    • Successful completion of all parts of the NBEO examination required
    • Current NY State Optometry License required
    • Current TPA (Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents) Certification required
    • DPA (Administration of Topical Diagnostic Pharmaceuticals) Certification required
    • Be eligible for Medicare/Medicaid Enrollment
    • Pre-employment background check, health physical and drug screening
