The Psychiatrist is a practicing clinician and is responsible for driving clinical quality and service excellence in the field of behavioral health. Responsible for implementing strategic initiatives and enhancing continuum of behavioral health care. Directs and empowers behavioral health staff to establish and maintain an efficient, patient-centered environment ensuring accountability, quality patient care, and patient satisfaction. Oversees implementation of screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment services for adolescents and adults in primary care and community health settings for substance misuse and substance use disorders (SUD).

Responsibilities

  • As a practicing clinician, provides full scope of psychiatry services including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance. Develops, implements and monitors treatment plans, including prescription of medications.
  • Responsible for overall service experience and behavioral health clinical excellence.
  • Responsible for the management of all behavioral health care provided, and for the quality of services rendered by behavioral health staff. 
  • Effectively promotes high standards of practice through adherence to policies, protocols and practice guidelines; identifies and corrects deficiencies in policies, protocols and guidelines utilizing performance improvement processes. Impacts directly on patient care through the development of appropriate clinical guidelines, polices, and procedures as well as discussion of individual case management.
  • Leads on-the-job training and assimilation efforts for behavioral health staff; ensures adequate training and clinical supervision.
  • Assists in the hiring process by interviewing behavioral health staff and providing hiring recommendations based upon ACPNY’s required competencies and desired behaviors. Monitors and evaluates performance of staff by setting goals and conducting performance appraisals.
  • Recommends personnel actions and disciplinary actions. Assists in the interpretation of and compliance with Human Resources, ACPNY and departmental policies and procedures. Ensures employees understand and comply with local, state, federal and regulatory standards, as they apply to respective job functions.
  • Participate in medical staff educational programs and meetings.

 

Qualifications

Education, Training, Licenses & Certifications 

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  • Completion of four year post graduate medical training from an accredited psychiatry residency program.
  • Board Certified in Psychiatry
  • Must possess current, unrestricted New York State license.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience practicing psychiatry; 1 – 3 years management experience.
  • Must possess Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration.
  • Must possess Medicare/Medicaid Enrollment or be eligible to enroll.
  • Must possess strong communication skills both oral and written.
  • Proficient in the use of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and Microsoft Office.
