The Echocardiogram Technician is responsible for using ultrasound equipment that assists cardiologist and/or physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment and patient for procedure. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed.
  • Operates special equipment to direct non-ionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body.
  • Provides excellent diagnostic echo images, correct views and accurate measurement for Transthoracic Echoes, Stress Echoes, Bubble studies, Definity Studies, and any other testing as ordered by provider
  • Assumes accountability for managing patient care and safety.
  • Maintains required and/or assigned records and logs.
  • Checks (NextGen) email correspondence, electronic task lists, and other written communication regularly throughout the business day to enable timely knowledge of and response to written correspondence.

  • Assumes accountability for managing patient care and safety.
  • Maintains required and/or assigned records and logs.
  • Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.
  • Monitors patient flow in exam rooms and waiting room(s).  Proactively resolves patient flow issues related to the clinical visit process. Keeps patients informed of any delays.
  • Completes patient referrals, as needed.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees participates in the development of other staff members.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the acceptance and completion of work assignments.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • Checks (NextGen) email correspondence, electronic task lists, and other written communication regularly throughout the business day to enable timely knowledge of and response to written correspondence.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Formal training from an accredited sonography school.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationOne to two years of experience as an Echo Tech.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to explain technical procedures and results to patients in user-friendly manner.
  • Demonstrated competence in Cardiac testing and EKG. Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills including typing. Experience performing mathematical and scientific calculations.

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish
