The Medical Assistant serves as a member of the health team in the treatment and care of patients and assists with tasks to support the medical office. The position works under the supervision of an RN/LPN Supervisor. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of human growth and development over the life span, ability to recognize data reflective of the patient’s status and inform the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse of his/her observations.


The schedule for this position is as follows: Friday 3:30pm-8pm; Saturday8am-5pm; Sunday 8am-5pm


  • Under the direction of supervising physician or designated other, assists provider in examination and treatment of patients which may include but is not limited to assisting in surgical procedures, vital signs, dressings, visual acuity, obtaining patient history and documenting it in chart, application of orthopedic appliances, and partial completion of physical forms.
  • Makes appointments for patients.
  • Assembles equipment, supplies, charts, lab and X-ray reports as necessary for assigned areas, as well as cleaning up after session and sterilization of instruments for assigned areas, handle telephone calls and messages.
  • Prepares complete laboratory and X-ray slips.
  • Fills out referrals as designated by physician or provider.
  • Prepares prescriptions for physician signature. Faxes and calls in prescriptions to pharmacies as needed. Obtains pre-authorizations of prescriptions as needed.
  • Books surgeries, pre-authorizes surgeries and prepares pre-admission paperwork.
  • Must be able to perform EKGs and have knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Batches encounters.
  • Tracks appointments and tests for providers.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.




  • HSD or GED
  • Certificate of completion from an Medical Assistant Program
  • One year work experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, hospital or similar healthcare environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer navigation skills.


  • Associates Degree
  • Certification from a nationally recognized organization such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT or NHA
  • Front desk work experience in a medical office, hospital or similar healthcare environment
